Hope in a discouraging world: It’s hard to come by. But bestselling author Paul Miller knows one habit –prayer—can catapult life beyond imagination. Don’t settle for a powerless faith. Find out how to pray big.

It’s one thing to learn to be dependent individually, but when you begin to learn to pray together and think of the family; when a family can begin to pray together, or the parts of the family—when I can close a conversation off with one of my kids, “Hey, can we just pray together about this?” Or where you’d turn conversations into short prayer times, where prayer begins to seep into all the structures and the fabric of how you do life as a family together, that’s when the Spirit begins to work in amazing ways. — Paul Miller

“Duck Dynasty” stars Willie and Korie Robertson laugh at duck call tales, dive into their movie “The Blind,” and explore faith, forgiveness, and family. Don’t miss their ideas on actively building a culture-changing family legacy.

I think a lot of times you look at the story, and you focus on Phil’s repentance because Phil’s change was significant. But also, Kay’s forgiveness was so significant; and both of those things had to happen for this family to stick together. If Phil had not repented, it’s done. If Phil had not changed his life, the family [would be] over. If Kay had not chosen forgiveness and taken Phil back—it changed everything. — Korie Robertson

Leaving Church: What’s Happening & What it Means for Parents https://www.familylife.com/podcast/familylife-today/leaving-church-whats-happening-what-it-means-for-parents/ Fri, 25 Aug 2023 09:15:00 +0000 https://www.familylife.com/?post_type=wpfc_sermon&p=156776 Why are people leaving church? Why are people leaving church? And with what we know—what could parents do differently? Jim Davis, author of The Great Dechurching, and church planter Michael Aitcheson offer ideas for shaping kids who want to stay.
If you’re between the ages of, I think it’s 57 and 74, somewhere in there, if you’re between those ages you’re a part of the most individualistic generation that has ever lived. And you’ve experienced the seat of power, likely as a Christian, in way that Christians historically and even today in other parts of the world don’t experience. The norm for God’s people, the early church and the Roman Empire, the norm for God’s church is to live in exile. — Jim Davis

Why People Leave Church–and What Parents Can Do: Jim Davis & Michael Aitcheson https://www.familylife.com/podcast/familylife-today/why-people-leave-church-and-what-parents-can-do-jim-davis-michael-aitcheson/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 09:15:00 +0000 https://www.familylife.com/?post_type=wpfc_sermon&p=156671 Church planter Michael Aitcheson and author Jim Davis explore why people leave church—and how parents can actively, intentionally shape kids who stay.]]>

Why do people leave church? And what can parents know and do so their kids aren’t casualties to a mass church exodus? Church planter Michael Aitcheson and author Jim Davis, author of The Great Dechurching: Who’s Leaving, Why Are They Going, and What Will It Take to Bring Them Back? as the two explore what’s happening in the church—and how parents can actively, intentionally shape kids who stay.
For a parent we have to be in community and the church is designed to be that. I mean the church really is. We should have a church family so when we talk about dechurching we would be remiss to not talk about we are saved into the body of Christ, which is the local church. — Jim Davis

The statistics on the exodus from the church are reason for all of us to be concerned. What do we need to know? Jim Davis, author of The Great Dechurching, and church planter Michael Aitcheson talk about who’s leaving, why, and what needs to happen.
About 40 million people live in our country who used to go to church and don’t anymore—used to go regularly and don’t—and most of that has happened in the last 25 years. That’s the alarming part. What was so hopeful is the vast majority of dechurched evangelicals not only willing to return but believe they will return. — Jim Davis
